Who is Dewey?

Dewey, my little guy.

In 2011, while on a walk with my first dog Porter, a female Jack Russell, a male Dachshund mix popped out of some bushes excited to see us. He darted around the yard that we were next to and ran into the street. After almost getting hit by a car, I had to scoop him up and I walked him door to door to find his home. No one knew him. So I carried him to our house. Porter was not impressed with this new guy, but after two months, countless flyers and bi-weekly calls to the animal shelters, he became part of our family. I really wanted to name him Dudley, but while talking to him one day I accidentally called him Dewey. To my surprise, he stood on his hind legs and clapped his hands. He was so excited. Almost as if it was his name. So that's what I called him. Dewey-Do.

He consoled me when Porter passes away from cancer in 2015 and has helped me welcome Parker, an almost five year old Jack Russell mix, and Luna, a Boston Terrier mix . Over the last eight years he's served as a model for me. I've love every second of capturing his life changes and I realize how important is it for me to have photographs of him. With the creation of this photography company, I felt it only fitting to name it Dapper Dewey Photography for my main man Dewey. He always wears his bow tie too. Sweet Dewey-Do. Such an awesome guy.

Dewey passed away on the evening of September 6, 2020 in my arms after two seizures. It was so incredibly sad to see him go, but I’m so happy that he didn’t suffer. I miss my bud. I’ll never forget his silly wiggles and how he itched his face. He leaves behind many wonderful memories of his bark (he would literally say “bark”), cuddles, and all of his sweaters and bowties. Loosing Dewey even more pounds home how important images are. They forever freeze time…. memories. I’m so grateful for this camera.

I love you, Dewey.
